Our Story
From a bare stretch of land in Hex Park to a thriving place of worship — the journey of Worcester Islamic Society, built by the hands and hearts of its community.
Worcester Islamic Society (WIS) was established on the 2nd of March 2002, on the initiative of a few concerned members of the Worcester Muslim community. They saw the need for an organisation to oversee the religious, moral and educational needs, as well as the socio-economic development, of the community — particularly Muslims living in Hex Park and Roodewal, sub-economic residential areas located far from the existing mosque at the time.
Alhamdulillah, in a relatively short period WIS acquired a sizeable piece of land in Hex Park — Erf No. 9683, measuring approximately 8,000m². This land was earmarked for the erection of a Mosque, a Training Centre (Madrassah) and a Community Centre. Given the scale of the project, it was decided to tackle the development in phases.
The mission of WIS is the establishment of clearness of conscience, mutual trust and the sanctity of a person's honour, so that its members can reach their full potential in worshipping our Creator with true conviction and purpose.
